Women getting Moxibustion on neck If you have considered seeking out alternative medical techniques, you may want to try moxibustion acupuncture at Infinite Wellness, Inc.. It’s a traditional Chinese medical technique that is rapidly gaining popularity within the United States.

What is Moxibustion Acupuncture?

An ancient Chinese therapy in existence for hundreds of years, moxibustion acupuncture centers around the burning of a small, spongy herb known as mugwort over various acupuncture points on a patient's body. Designed to promote rapid healing, its purpose is to stimulate the flow of qi, strengthen one's blood, and maintain general health.

Direct Moxibustion Acupuncture

If a patient chooses direct moxibustion acupuncture, it will involve small, cone-shaped amounts of moxa being placed on acupuncture points and then burned. Available in either scarring or non-scarring forms, most patients tend to select non-scarring, where the moxa is placed on the acupuncture point and lit, but is extinguished before burning the skin.

Indirect Moxibustion Acupuncture

By far the most popular type of these two therapy options, indirect moxibustion acupuncture offers a much lower risk of pain or having one's skin burned. When used, an acupuncture practitioner lights a moxa stick and holds it near an acupuncture point for several minutes until the skin turns red.

In other instances, an acupuncture needle is inserted into a point and then retained. Once done, the needle's tip is wrapped in moxa and ignited, creating heat in the surrounding area. Upon the patient experiencing relief, the moxa is extinguished and the acupuncture needle removed.

The Benefits of Moxibustion Acupuncture

Along with being an ancient Chinese medical technique that people around the world have relied on for hundreds or even thousands of years, moxibustion acupuncture offers many other benefits to patients. Some of the most common include:

  • Immediate pain relief
  • Reduced frequency and severity of hot flashes associated with menopause
  • Improved immune health
  • Faster recovery times

Since the heated moxa stimulates various nerves within the body, endorphins are quickly released to block pain. As for helping postmenopausal women, studies have shown an average of 14 treatment sessions can help ease the dreaded hot flashes women often experience.

By stimulating the immune system, it can assist in helping to increase endurance and relieve pain from legs and knees. Finally, it can help muscles heal faster while also providing you with a relaxing treatment session that allows you to clear your mind and think more clearly.
